This project explores the behavior of ultracold atoms in artificial gauge fields using Ytterbium atoms in optical lattices. It aims to study strongly correlated quantum states and their excitations, mimicking phenomena observed in high-energy physics and condensed matter.
In this project, we will investigate the many-body physics of interacting ultracold atoms in presence of strong gauge fields.
The practical implementation will use Ytterbium atoms in optical lattices.
We will use two atoms in two internal states- the ground state and a long-lived excited state- trapped in suitably designed state-dependent lattice potentials.
