This project aims to develop a multi-resistant apple variety using CRISPR/Cas9 technology to edit susceptibility genes. By employing a transgene-free method, it seeks to enhance resistance against key pathogens while maintaining genetic stability, promoting sustainable apple cultivation.
Apple is one of the most important crop.
Pathogens causing powdery mildew, fire blight, and scab represent serious threats to apple cultivation.
These pathogens are mainly controlled by pesticides with a negative impact on the environment and possibly on the health of the consumers on the long term.
