The project explores the integration of magnetic gears with induction machines to create a new electromechanical device. This 'pseudo' direct drive aims to improve performance in high-torque, low-speed applications like pumps and turbines.
Magnetic gears offer substantial advantages compared to mechanical gears such as reduced maintenance, improved reliability, minimum acoustic noise and inherent overload protection.
Furthermore, magnetic gears can have comparable or better performances than their mechanical counterpart.
