The MacGhyver project develops a compact microfluidic alkaline electrolyzer for efficient green hydrogen production using non-precious metals. It aims to create a modular prototype that produces hydrogen at a low cost, with plans to scale up for industrial applications and decentralized energy solutions.
MacGhyver has refocused its activities on a compact, scalable microfluidic alkaline electrolyzer for green hydrogen production with enhanced efficiency and the use of non-precious metal contents.
The immediate objective is a 1 kW modular prototype employing high-ECSA electrodes and a 30-cell (10 × 15 cm) stack, enabling 0.45 kg/day hydrogen production at 1 A/cm² and 1.8 V with an energy demand of 56 kWh/kg H2.
Reduced pumping requirements (<6 kWh/kg) target a overall production cost below €11/kg…
