LightHeal focuses on developing self-healing polymers that can repair themselves using light as a trigger. By creating photoswitchable cross-links within the polymer structure, the project aims to enhance material toughness while enabling controlled healing.
Self healing polymers, i.e., materials which the ability to repair themselves, have emerged as an attractive alternative to traditional materials due to the advantages they offer to society in terms of durability, reliability and cost and energy efficiencies.
