This project focuses on developing a new type of artificial lens that mimics the natural focusing ability of the eye, addressing presbyopia, a common age-related vision issue. By creating a lens that can change shape, it aims to improve vision quality and life for millions affected by this condition.
Presbyopia, the age-related loss of the ability of the eye to focus near and far objects, affects 1.2 billion people in the world.
While there are a number of corrections for presbyopia available (near and progressive spectacles, monovision or multifocal lenses) none of these restore the dynamic focusing capability of the young crystalline lens.
