Aromatic compounds are cheap and readily available, making them ideal starting materials for the synthesis of chiral alicyclic compounds, important synthetic building blocks for both natural product synthesis and drug discovery.
However, general strategies for efficient, catalytic dearomatisation of aromatics are lacking.
