This research explores how certain sea slugs maintain functional chloroplasts from algae within their cells, a process known as kleptoplasty. It aims to uncover the cellular mechanisms that support this phenomenon and the benefits it provides to the host organism.
Rationale:
Photosynthesis is almost exclusively restricted to algae and plants, with the exception of some protozoans, flatworms and marine slugs that acquire chloroplasts from algae.
