This project explores the KdpFABC complex, a membrane protein involved in potassium transport. By understanding its mechanism, the research aims to challenge existing concepts of membrane transport and potentially lead to the development of new antibiotics targeting prokaryotic systems.
The structure-function relationships that explain the transport mechanism of membrane proteins on a molecular level are poorly understood and define one of the most complex and interdisciplinary research fields at the interface of Biology, Chemistry and Physics.
