The iTECC project investigates the interplay between tectonics and climate using the Himalayas as a natural laboratory. It trains young scientists to analyze geological records and current processes to understand how these factors influence each other.
Tectonics and climate are interdependent.
The tectonics of orogens are moderated by climate through erosion.
Exposure of rock by tectonics or erosion is critical to the feedback which governs changes in global climate, whilst topography influences rainfall.
