This project investigates the role of N-methyl-D-aspartate receptors in memory formation and retrieval using a mouse model of anti-NMDA receptor encephalitis. By analyzing the activity of place-cells in the hippocampus, it aims to understand the neural mechanisms behind memory deficits associated with this autoimmune d…
Since the discovery of the anti-NMDA receptor (anti-NMDAr) encephalitis (Dalmau et al., 2007) there has been a rapid expansion in both the number of patients diagnosed with this potentially fatal but treatable disease, and the identification of other autoimmune synaptic disorders (Lancaster & Dalmau 2012).
Given the established central role of NMDAr in learning and memory, memory deficits are among the predominant symptoms of this disorder.
