This project investigates the hormone erythroferrone, which regulates iron absorption and release in the body. By understanding its mechanisms, the research aims to develop new treatments for various types of anemia that current therapies cannot effectively address.
The existence of an “erythron-related regulator” that intensifies iron absorption and its release from stores to meet the requirements for red blood cells synthesis was proposed in the 1950s.
