This research investigates the emergence of modern aesthetics in Europe from the 17th to 18th centuries, exploring its connections to social, moral, and political issues. The study aims to reconstruct intellectual models and discourses that shaped this new perspective on beauty and experience.
By “the aesthetic” I mean a radically modern phenomenon emerging in the second half of the 17th and early 18th centuries, and not an adjective referring to the common set of philosophies (metaphysics) of beauty and / or theories of (fine) arts in general.
