IntegraSea focuses on sustainable aquaculture by exploring offshore cultivation of native seaweed species. The project aims to integrate seaweed with fish farming to enhance environmental benefits and economic viability, while addressing harmful algal blooms that affect bivalve production in Portugal.
IntegraSea is in line with the EU Blue Growth Agenda, in seeking to develop and evaluate new opportunities for sustainableaquaculture development.
The increasing interest in the incorporation of seaweed-based extracts into ‘natural’ products hascreated a new market for seaweed.
