This project investigates how large carnivores and environmental factors influence herbivore populations in the Białowieża Primeval Forest. It aims to understand the interactions between herbivores and their predators, as well as the effects of herbivory on tree growth through experimental studies.
Herbivore top-down effects and abiotic bottom-up effects are important in structuring forest systems.
Recent studies showed that carnivores may shape indirectly herbivore effects.
It is largely unknown how these factors interact in complete ecosystems.
