InnoProtein addresses the urgent need for sustainable protein sources to enhance Europe's self-sufficiency. The project focuses on developing alternative proteins from single-cell organisms and insects, promoting circular and waste-free production methods for food and feed applications.
In 2050, there will be up to worldwide 10 billion inhabitants, being one of the greatest environmental, economic and social global challenges to produce enough quality protein sustainably, reducing current pressure in its production on natural resources.
In this context, the EU is vulnerable due to its “protein gap” (imports 70% of protein-rich crops and 90% of soybeans).
