This project addresses antimicrobial resistance by developing new antibacterial agents targeting ECF transporters in Gram-positive bacteria. The approach involves designing and optimizing compounds that inhibit vitamin uptake, leading to bacterial cell death.
Antimicrobial resistance is a global health threat, urgently calling for the development of novel anti-infective strategies.
We will adopt a multidisciplinary approach to design, synthesize and optimize derivatives targeting ECF transporters as antibacterial agents.
The ECF transporters are transmembrane proteins involved in the uptake of vitamins predominantly in Gram-positive pathogens (e.g., Streptococcus pneumoniae, Enterococcus faecalis, E. faecium, Staphylococcus aureus).
