IMMUNOPREVENT investigates how certain breast cancer precursor cells evade immune detection and aims to identify strategies for preventing cancer in high-risk women. The project focuses on the role of specific proteins in enhancing immune response against these cells.
Damaged cells, including precancerous cells, continuously accumulate in healthy tissues, but they are identified and eliminated by the immune system in a continuous process named immunosurveillance.
Therefore, effective immunosurveillance plays an essential role in preventing cancer development.
