This project develops a framework for designing marketplaces that account for inequalities among participants. It explores how to structure market rules to prioritize equitable outcomes over traditional efficiency, particularly in sectors like health care and transit where resource distribution is critical.
Policymakers often introduce rules constraining transactions in individual markets—such as rent control—or even choose to distribute scarce resources by circumventing markets completely, as is frequently the case for health care or transit.
