ILUMIS aims to develop soft robots that integrate actuation, energy storage, sensing, and logic within a fluidic network architecture. This approach mimics natural organisms, allowing for more autonomous and intelligent behavior in applications like surgical micro-robots and virtual reality interfaces.
Actuation, energy storage, sensing, and logic are four functionalities of both natural and artificial organisms, giving them the ability to thrive in their environment.
The blueprint of conventional robots localizes these functionalities in discrete components supported by rigid materials.
