This project focuses on developing an inspection tool for drilling holes in carbon fiber reinforced polymer components used in aircraft. The tool combines endoscopic inspection with photometric stereo to assess bore quality, aiming for automation in the inspection process and improved drilling efficiency.
The extended use of CFRP parts in aircraft construction (e.g.
Airbus A350) requires improved process technologies for the drilling of holes in carbon fibre composites.
For the assembly of hull components than 10.000 holes need to be drilled.
