This project investigates how cells organize into 3D shapes during organ formation, focusing on the zebrafish retina. It explores the interaction between molecular signals and mechanical properties to understand tissue morphogenesis at a single-cell level and aims to develop a physical model of these processes.
Organogenesis arises from the collective arrangement of cells into a progressively 3D shaped tissue.
The acquisition of a correct shaped organ is a result of a complex interplay between molecular cues, responsible for differentiation and patterning, and the mechanical properties of the system, which generate the necessary forces that drive correct shape emergence.
