The project aims to develop a universal technology for harvesting microalgae, addressing the high costs and energy demands of current methods. By adapting wastewater treatment technologies, it seeks to improve algae recovery rates and reduce operational costs.
Microalgae has been researched and cultivated commercially for human and animal nutrition, for cosmetics and pharmaceutical applications, for biofuels and biomass production, for wastewater treatment and to some extent for greenhouse gas abatement.
