This project investigates luminous infrared galaxies, focusing on their hidden centers powered by supermassive black holes. By utilizing advanced observational techniques, it aims to uncover the rapid evolutionary phases of these galaxies and their connections to star formation.
Luminous infrared galaxies (LIRGs) emit most of their bolometric luminosity in the far-infrared.
They are mainly powered by extreme bursts of star formation and/or Active Galactic Nuclei (AGNs; accreting supermassive black holes (SMBHs)) in their centres. LIRGs are the closest examples of rapid evolution in galaxies and a detailed study of LIRGs is critical for our understanding of the cosmic evolution of galaxies and SMBHs.
