The HardAlt project aims to replace hard chromium plating in the electroplating industry with safer, nano-structured nickel-phosphorus coatings. These alternative coatings are designed to provide similar or enhanced protective properties against wear and corrosion without the health risks associated with chromium.
The total annual estimated direct cost of corrosion, not including wear damage, in the worlds is estimated at about 3.1% of the world’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
Protective coatings serve to prevent wear and corrosion and thus reduce the total loss from corrosion and wear.
