This research focuses on the geochemistry of halogens, exploring their behavior during Earth's formation and subduction processes. By analyzing halogens in meteorites and mantle rocks, the project aims to establish new benchmarks and improve understanding of volcanic activity.
Halogens (F, Cl, Br and I) are involved in key processes of the Earth and Planetary sciences.
However, some crucial challenges of halogens’ geochemistry are unsolved.
They include (i) halogen abundances in the Earth’s primitive mantle (PM) with implications on their origin and evolution during Earth formation and early differentiation; (ii) their behaviour during subduction to the Earth’s mantle; and (iii), their magmatic-volcanogenic fluxes from the mantle to the crust at subduction zones (SZ).…
