This project aims to understand the molecular mechanisms underlying sperm specialization and motility. By utilizing advanced imaging techniques, the research will explore how sperm cells develop their unique structures and functions, with potential implications for infertility treatments and contraceptive methods.
Sperm are highly specialised cells whose structure is optimised for a defined function.
Although the distinctive sperm ultrastructure has been known for many years thanks to electron microscopy, an understanding of the molecular details of sperm specialisation is severely lagging.
