The project examines how generalizations are used in legal fact-finding, distinguishing between acceptable and objectionable types. It develops a framework based on moral autonomy to assess the implications of using generalizations, particularly in attributing personal responsibility in legal contexts.
The project deals with the ways in which generalizations, both quantified and unquantified, are used in legal fact-finding, either explicitly as pieces of evidence or implicitly as support for certain inferences.
