This project develops a prototype system for understanding and generating metaphors, particularly in the contexts of illness and reconciliation. By integrating artificial intelligence with linguistic theories, it aims to enhance how metaphors are modeled and utilized in natural language processing.
Metaphor is a focus in many research fields, and is important in much mundane discourse: issues such as relationships, disease, states of mind, are often most economically and understandably conveyed, asked about, discussed, etc., through metaphor.
Despite its importance, there is currently a lack of work on technological solutions to modeling metaphor, with modeling difficulties stemming from its richness and complexity.
