This project focuses on optimizing the design and flow analysis of a rotor head fairing for a compound helicopter to reduce drag. It involves developing software for aerodynamic simulations and refining fairing configurations to enhance flight dynamics and efficiency.
The project is aimed on the numerical design optimization and flow analysis of a semi-watertight full fairing rotor head with respect to drag reduction of a compound helicopter configuration, namely the Low Impact, Fast and Efficient Rotorcraft (LifeRCraft) demonstrator.
It has been shown that fully fairing the structural components of the rotor head as a whole provides significant drag reduction potential.
