This project explores functional diversity in ecosystems, particularly in tundra regions, to understand its role in ecosystem resilience and service provision. It utilizes remote sensing data to analyze the distribution and dynamics of functional diversity over time.
Functional diversity (FD) among species in ecosystems allows these systems to function optimally and provide essential services for society, e.g. carbon sequestration and water filtration. FD determines the ecosystem’s resilience to environmental change and provides resilience to abrupt disturbances.
Although the importance of FD is now recognized, its divers across spatial and temporal scales are not yet clear.
