This project investigates the role of a specific enzyme, PFKFB3, in cancer cell proliferation and metabolism. It aims to understand how this enzyme influences the cell cycle and tumor development, potentially leading to new cancer therapies.
Cancer is one of the leading causes of death in Europe and one of the highlighted issues in the 7th Framework Programme.
Understanding the molecular mechanisms of cancer is expected to contribute to the development of better therapeutic approaches.
In this project, the applicant proposes to examine the role of 6-phosphofructo-2-kinase/fructose-2,6-bisphosphatase-3 (PFKFB3) and its product, fructose-2,6-bisphosphate (F2,6BP), in the regulation of the cell cycle and tumorigenesis.
