The FORMIT project focuses on developing forest management strategies to enhance carbon sequestration in Europe. It evaluates different management scenarios and trade-offs to optimize carbon storage, biodiversity conservation, and timber production while considering regional variations.
Forest management can lead to continuous carbon sequestration, while timber as a renewable energy source can used as a substitute for fossil fuel, thus multiplying this mitigation effect.
