FORAGENCY investigates how local communities in colonial Central Africa resisted outside encroachment by utilizing traditional practices of foraging, fishing, and hunting. The project explores the economic and cultural strategies employed to maintain autonomy and adapt indigenous knowledge against colonial influences.
FORAGENCY offers a new take on indigenous agency in colonial Central Africa.
It will study how local communities managed to counter, alleviate and/or minimize their encroachment by outside forces through the maintenance and adaptation of pre-existing uses of the environment.
