This project aims to develop a new fire-fighting hose system for forestry applications that enhances the safety and efficiency of fire-fighters. The hose will utilize a novel rubber formulation to withstand extreme temperatures, significantly improving current performance and durability in combating wildfires.
Fires destroy between 200K and 600K hectares of forest every year in the EU-15, accounting mainly for the Mediterranean countries (Greece, France, Italy, Portugal and Spain), and costing the European economy between 200 and 600 million Euro per year, and a number of live loss.
Direct earth fire combat using hoses is a key method used for fighting fires in forestry environments, often used in conjunction with air fighting and other methods.
