This project investigates the formation and role of fullerenes in the Interstellar Medium. By studying their detection and excitation mechanisms, it aims to uncover the chemical pathways leading to complex organic molecules in space.
The precise composition of the material that is injected into the Interstellar Medium (ISM) determines the physical properties of the local Universe, as well as the chemical pathways that lead to the formation of complex, organic molecules that can be incorporated into new stars and planetary systems.
One of the most important families of organic molecules is fullerenes, large molecules of carbon atoms organized into hollow spheres or ellipsoids.
