This project investigates the degradation of antibiotics in constructed wetlands to mitigate environmental health risks. It employs advanced isotope techniques to understand the processes affecting antibiotic persistence and aims to improve wastewater treatment practices.
Antibiotics (AB), their degradation products and the translocation of resistant genes in the environment poses serious health risks to humans, animals and ecosystems (OneHealth concept).
Constructed wetlands (CW) have untapped potential to treat wastewater from agriculture, domestic sewage or contaminated water effluents from waste water treatment plant for eliminating AB.
