This project investigates how climate change affects the transmission of zoonotic vector-borne diseases, focusing on fascioliasis as a model. It aims to develop an integrative modelling framework to predict disease risk and provide open-source tools for the health sector to mitigate impacts across Europe.
Vector-borne diseases (VBDs) pose a major threat to the health of societies around the world, with more than 80% of the global population at risk of at least one major VBD.
VBDs are particularly susceptible to the effects of climate change, which will affect the distribution of vectors, the spatial and temporal patterns of the diseases vectors transmit, as well as the efficiency and intensity with which vectors transmit pathogens.
