This project investigates the role of neural circuit asymmetries in the navigation abilities of Drosophila. By examining the anatomical and physiological properties of dorsal cluster neurons, the research aims to uncover how structural differences enhance cognitive functions and behavior in a single model organism.
Asymmetry is a fundamental principle of nervous system organization and can be seen across species in various forms, ranging from subtle differences in neuron size, synaptic connectivity, or axonal branching, to more pronounced cases where entire brain regions are lateralized to one hemisphere.
