The EXOFUN project investigates the impact of exotic tree plantations on soil microbiomes and ecosystem functions. By comparing Eucalyptus and Pinus species, the research aims to understand how these plantations affect biodiversity, carbon sequestration, and the resilience of ecosystems to climate change.
Over the centuries, exotic trees have been planted worldwide for the rehabilitation of degraded lands and to obtain financial benefits from wood, paper production, tannins, ornamental assets.
