This project aims to develop a metabolic signature for neuroendocrine tumors (NENs) to improve patient stratification based on tumor site and malignancy. By utilizing advanced spectroscopy and spectrometry techniques, the study seeks to enhance understanding of NENs and address the rising incidence of these tumors.
Background:
Tumors that arise from neuroendocrine cells (NENs) were traditionally considered rare tumors with low malignant potential.
Recent data suggest that the incidence of NENs has increased over the last three decades.
Furthermore, symptoms are frequently overlooked and subsequently, 60-80% of these tumors present with metastases at initial diagnosis.
