This project investigates the historical and contemporary regulation of interracial relationships in Europe, challenging the notion that Europe lacked anti-miscegenation laws. Through archival research and interviews, it aims to uncover the legal and social dynamics surrounding racial mixture in various contexts.
This project is a study of the regulation of ‘mixture’(‘interracial’ sex, relationships and marriage) in Europe’s past and present.
Informed by critical race and critical mixed race studies, it challenges the common assumption that Europe never had ‘anti-miscegenation’ laws comparable to those in the United States.
