This project focuses on bacterial persisters, a dormant state that contributes to chronic infections. It aims to develop small molecules that can target and disrupt the mechanisms of persister formation, potentially leading to more effective treatments for persistent bacterial infections.
Given the alarming progression of chronic and relapsing infections in the last decades, and the even more alarming predictions for the upcoming years, it is urgent for chemists to be able to provide new molecular tools to study, and ultimately solve, these complex biological problems.
