The EMPIRE project aims to map dense gas in nearby star-forming galaxies to understand star formation processes. By analyzing various gas tracers, it seeks to link local conditions to broader galactic evolution and contribute to the field of astrochemistry.
A thorough understanding of the processes regulating the conversion of gas into stars is key to understand structure formation in the universe and the evolution of galaxies through cosmic time.
Despite significant progress over the past years, the properties of the actual dense, star forming gas across normal disk galaxies remain largely unknown.
