EfficientHeat aims to develop a cost-effective technology for pig farmers to treat and reduce pig slurry volume. The project focuses on minimizing waste, lowering treatment costs, and enhancing energy efficiency while recovering nutrients for reuse.
The increase of EU pig production and the intensification of its practice resulted of an increase of pigwaste production.
In 2008, more than 930 million m3 of pig slurry was produced in the EU.
Pigs areraised indoor and the manure collected is mostly slurry.
Pig farmers need to treat a great volume ofresidue with high viscosity and variable physico-chemical composition.
