This project develops a human-specific platform using directly reprogrammed renal epithelial cells to screen for nephrotoxicity in drugs. It aims to provide a scalable, high-throughput alternative to traditional animal testing, enhancing drug safety and reducing late-stage failures.
Acute tubular necrosis (ATN) is a major cause of nephrotoxicity-related drug attrition in clinical trials, yet current preclinical models rely on animal studies or immortalized renal cell lines, which lack human physiological relevance.
