DORMATRIX aims to understand and engineer the transition of breast cancer from dormancy to active growth using biomaterials-based devices. By modeling cancer micro-units and applying biophysical principles, the project seeks to develop new therapies that can delay or prevent metastasis.
Cancer dormancy and the trigger to transition to active metastatic growth is a big open question.
Current in vivo models focus on niche-specific cell and molecular mechanisms, ignoring biophysical aspects.
