The DOC project investigates the origins of organic chemistry in systems similar to the early Solar System, aiming to understand how organic compounds evolve and contribute to the emergence of life. It combines astronomical observations with quantum chemistry to develop a comprehensive theory of astrochemistry.
Terrestrial life is based on organic chemistry, on the complex combination of relatively small molecules containing less than 50 atoms of carbon and other elements in smaller quantities.
