DINEQ investigates how economic inequality is discussed in British newspapers from 1971 to 2011. By analyzing linguistic changes over time, the project aims to reveal shifts in public discourse related to wealth inequality, using methods from corpus linguistics and discourse analysis.
DINEQ explores changes in the discoursal representation of degrees of economic inequality in selected British newspapers in 1971 and 2011.
It is the first applied diachronic linguistic study to combine a consideration of the socio-political history in Britain in those forty years, a comparative analysis of selected public discourses in those two years, and a semantic, grammatical and lexical study of media representations of wealth inequality.
