This project investigates the role of E-cadherin in cell adhesion and tissue integrity, particularly in response to environmental pollutants. It aims to understand how these pollutants may disrupt E-cadherin function and compromise epithelial tissue protection.
Cadherin expression on the surface of cells is critical for cell-cell adhesion and, consequently, for the development and the integrity of solid tissues.
In mammals, impaired cadherin mediated adhesion has been implicated in all steps of tumor progression.
